Social Worker (LICSW)

The Arts, Sports, and Technology Resource Organization, hereby referred to as “ASTRO”, is committed to champion equity among diverse populations by innovating health promoting programs that improve the way people live, learn, work, and play. Serving youth and adult populations, ASTRO will build community around common interests in the arts, sports, and technology to help every Rhode Islander lead a healthy, productive life. Case management enriches social, behavioral, physical, and financial well being by growing an individual's support network to address functional needs through collaboration. Through collaborative programming with municipalities and other community based organizations, we provide OST programming, group/family/individual therapy, case management, adult day care services, mentoring opportunities, and special events that improve social determinants of health for at-risk populations and people with disabilities of all ages and backgrounds.

The Social Worker is responsible for supporting students and advocating for their emotional, mental and physical wellbeing. Their duties include counseling students and connecting at-risk youth with helpful resources.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Promote the general well-being of the students
  • Work with outside agencies to provide support to families
  • Offer mentoring and suggestions to ASTRO staff
  • Develop and provide crisis intervention strategies to improve student success
  • Work to maximize coping skills for students in difficult situations
  • Intervene when students are struggling and help them find healthy ways to succeed
  • Educate students on social and emotional concepts
  • Collaborate with staff to identify students that are struggling emotionally, socially or academically and identify the root cause of their issues
  • Direct students and their families to sources of community support
  • Provide leadership and management to ensure that the mission and core values are put into practice
  • Foster a success-oriented, accountable environment
  • Engage in conflict resolution when needed
  • Be an energetic, forward-thinking and creative individual
  • Demonstrate high ethical standards and an appropriate professional image
  • Work collaboratively to plan, organize, implement and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies and procedures, etc., that are necessary for operating the program

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in social work
  • Valid and current LICSW license
  • Five or more years of clinical social work experience
  • Ability to make psychosocial assessments and develop and implement care plans
  • Excellent listening and communication skills
  • Ability to develop creative solutions to challenging situations
  • Have a proactive and positive attitude
  • Be able to set boundaries
  • Be perceptive and an active listener
  • Be empathetic yet objective
  • Extremely strong organizational, writing, verbal, and interpersonal skills

Nurse Practitioner (NP)

ASTRO is a non profit organization that provides after school programs to children ages 5 (kindergarten) to 13. We are looking for an experienced nurse practitioner to join our dynamic team. Your primary responsibility will be to provide health services to students when needed. For example, you’ll treat injuries and and mild to acute sicknesses, or support students with chronic illnesses. You’ll also help with preventive care by educating students on how to avoid communicable diseases and having proper hygiene. To succeed in this role, you must have excellent organizational skills and the ability to communicate with children and their parents/guardians. If you meet these requirements, and you also have a genuine interest in improving children’s lives, we’d like to hear from you.

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide basic healthcare to students in case of injury or acute illness
  • Develop health plans for students with chronic illnesses and disabilities
  • Detect health problems in early stages through regular screenings
  • Keep track of students’ vaccination records
  • Update students’ medical history
  • Ensure environment is safe for children and staff (e.g. prevention of communicable diseases)
  • Provide psychological services as needed

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing
  • Required license or certification
  • Current Rhode Island RN license
  • Must be CPR certified
  • Must successfully complete a background check including CANTS (Child Abuse and Neglect Tracking System) clearance

Instructor

ASTRO is a non-profit organization dedicated to the enhancement of children's lives by providing after school programs. Instructors are the heart and soul of ASTRO. These are our team members that are out on the floor day to day making ASTRO an organization that people are excited to be a part of. It is the job of the instructor to make sure each student is challenging themselves and reaching their goals.

  • Assist other instructors in leading group activities of relevant subject matter (art, physical fitness, audio, academics) in an atmosphere where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences enhancing the social, physical, academic, and career advancement of the students they teach.
  • Implement lesson plans and activities.
  • Engage in teaching the class and act as a positive role model.
  • Exhibit respectful, courteous, and helpful behavior to students, staff, parents/guardians, school personnel, agency representatives, and the general public.
  • Build relationships with students, parents, and school administration/teachers.

Requirements

  • Experience working with students of all age levels from diverse backgrounds including low-income and disabled populations.
  • A minimum of 1 years experience in subject matter relevant to the class being taught
  • Possess general knowledge in the areas of lesson implementation, classroom management, safety/risk management in programs for all ages, responsive classroom models and techniques,

Bus Driver

ASTRO is a non-profit organization which provides after school care for children ages 5 - 13.

We are currently looking for a bus driver to transport children in one of our two buses; a twelve passenger bus or a twenty-three passenger bus.

Duties

  • Safely transport students to and from program
  • Assists students in the loading and unloading process
  • Engage with students as they enter and leave the bus
  • Must enjoy working with children
  • Perform pre/post trip vehicle inspections
  • Obey all traffic laws to ensure students arrive to their destination safely
  • Experience with driving a 12 passenger and a 23 passenger bus
  • Ability to carry out assigned route on time

Requirements

 

  • Must possess a valid Rhode Island Chauffeur’s License or equivalent from another state
  • A minimum of 3 years experience transporting people
  • Must have a good driving record with no more than three violations within the last three years
  • Experience working with students of all age levels from diverse backgrounds including low-income and disabled populations
  • Must successfully complete a comprehensive background check

After School Childcare Staff

ASTRO provides after school care for children ages five (kindergarten) to thirteen. Our center offers a variety of activities to keep our members active and engaged. We are looking for creative, dedicated, energetic individuals to join our dynamic team. Our staff assist our members in the fields of art, physical fitness, homework, tutoring, music appreciation and much more.

We are looking for Child Care Staff to encourage the healthy intellectual and psychological growth of the children at ASTRO. You will teach and supervise children while also motivating them to use their mental capacities and exercise their imagination.

 

Responsibilities

  • Design and follow a full schedule of activities and discover suitable teaching material
  • Use a wide range of teaching methods (stories, media, indoor or outdoor games, drawing etc) to enhance the child’s abilities
  • Collaborate with other colleagues
  • Observe children’s interactions and promote the spirit of concord
  • Encourage children to interact with each other and resolve occasional arguments
  • Maintain a clean and tidy classroom consistent with health and safety standards
