Group Therapy

MMA Behavioral HealthCare – Middle School & High School

Take CoMMAnd is a dynamic mixed martial arts program that helps students connect mind, body, and spirit by exploring conflict and why violence happens. Students learn to work together and communicate more effectively by identifying triggers of their emotions and taking command of how they choose to react to those emotions. Through body language and verbal communication students learn to work together to achieve proficiency in stringing and grappling self defense techniques. Incorporated in this program there will be group therapy which addresses a myriad of behavioral health issues through movement and group discussion. A licensed clinician is on staff to work with participants and create individualized care plans.

Art Exploration – Middle School & High School

Art, creativity, and design thinking are at the heart of our Art Exploration Program. Students will be immersed in a variety of creative applications including painting, sculpture, crafting, jewelry making, and so much more. The objective of this program is to allow students to explore different materials and techniques while developing skills which can be utilized far beyond the classroom.

Virtual Video Production – Middle School & High School

Students enrolled in this course will work hands-on with Apple iMovie software to learn all about the art of video production. Participants will be taught video shooting techniques, video editing skills, storyboard creation, scriptwriting and character development, and post production. The skills acquired in this program are universal to all video production ventures and will absolutely act as a springboard to any student who is thinking about pursuing a career or higher education in filmmaking or internet content creation! We are happy to announce that ASTONISHINGSTUDIOS on youtube will be an instructor of this course.

Yoga For Resilience – Middle School & High School

Join a dynamic team of teens learning skills toward becoming a certified academic tutor and movement specialist; we work together to develop our strengths, academically, emotionally, and mentally, and then, learn how to help others find their own strengths as well. Through hands-on experience mentoring elementary students, members will learn teaching techniques for helping students to practice  reading, writing, and math, as well as yogic skills for managing stress.

Audio Production – Middle School & High School

Members of this club will be introduced to the world of digital audio recording by learning how to operate Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs). Throughout the course, participants will create a song using MIDI and Audio recording equipment. As students experience different methods of recording music, they challenge themselves to think past the creative constraints of art to make an original piece. All hardware is provided, however access to a computer outside of the program is recommended.

Learning From the Heart – Elementary

ASTRO’s Learning from the Heart: Elementary Program invites you to our safety zone, where you will experience your strengths, not just academically, but emotionally and mentally as well. You will join a team of students, who help each other learn fun, easy to use skills for reading, writing, and math, as well as yoga at your own pace. We meet you where you are at, and follow your lead; when we help each other, we help ourselves.

Style Writing – Middle School and High School

Some call it Graffiti and some call it street art; but, here at ASTRO, we know it to be Style Writing. Students will express their identity by creating a writername and developing a unique style to gain a better connection with themselves and the community. All elements of hip hop are brought into this program as guest DJs, MC’s and B-boys will make appearances and enhance the students’ understanding of the culture.

Bee in Motion – Elementary

Bee In Motion is a mobile movement therapy class where elementary students of all abilities will explore self-expression and non-verbal communication through movement and music. Based on the understanding that the body, mind and spirit are interrelated, movement therapy is defined by the American Dance Therapy Association as the psychotherapeutic use of movement to further emotional, cognitive, physical, and social integration of the individual.  This class will have a repertoire of movement exercises that stimulate changes in brain chemistry and effect positive alterations in emotions, thoughts, physical functioning and behaviors.

Saturday Spring Programs Open for Enrollment

Recipe for Success – High Schoolers Ages 16+

This is an in person, hands on learning experience in a commercial kitchen will prepare students for a successful career as a prep cook. The 10 week class will focus on development of knife skills, cooking techniques, recipe implementation, food safety and sanitation. Students will be required to work individually and within a team. 

 

Prerequisite: Must be at least 16 years of age at the start of the class. Ability to stand for long periods of time +3hrs & lift 25lbs. Appropriate dress code required-no sleeveless shirts, no open toed shoes, no jewelry, no fingernail polish. Must have sneakers or non-skid shoes. Can wear a hat or hair restraint otherwise hair nets are provided

ASTRO Automotive – High Schoolers Ages 16+

ASTRO Automotive is a hands-on training taught by career professionals focused on early childhood and high school education designed to help students build useful skills to prepare them for the automotive industry or simple automotive ownership. This program features clean, professional equipped bays to show the students what it takes to maintain anything from a new car to an antique. Our basic focus is to help train the next daily driver, or daily technician; and, classes include technology, repairs, body work, mechanical education and more.
