Take CoMMAnd Sports Therapy Group

ASTRO and New England Wellness Collaborative are proud to provide this unique group therapy service utilizing the CASEL competencies to progress monitor for improved skills in the areas of self-awareness, social awareness, self-management, relationship building and responsible decision-making. Through the practice of martial arts non-violent communication and movement, participants become more aware of their body and mind, which helps them to identify their emotions and the way they express them. By teaching, modeling, and socially coaching participants through challenges and emotional dysregulation, we help participants foster social skills that build healthy relationships.

Clients will work in teams and small groups to learn non-violent martial arts skills and related exercises that improve body control and body language. Martial arts is a way of  life based on discipline and self expression. Our curriculum is designed to teach participants to Take CoMMAnd of their thoughts and actions by identifying their emotions and choosing productive behaviors that improve self-esteem and support positive social interactions. This is a no-contact group, meaning no clients come into physical contact with one another. NEWC will provide a licensed therapist to provide social coaching and clinical intervention as needed. ASTRO staff and volunteers guide participants through stretching, meditation and non-violent martial arts exercises.

Summer Session is open for enrollment for children ages 12-18.
